Course Description: SENIOR ART STUDIO 1,2 (0372,3) Grade 12 ONLY
THIS COURSE IS REQUIRED FOR SENIOR STUDENTS PURSUING CAREERS IN DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, DRAWING , PAINTING, DESIGN, MIXED MEDIA, AND WEB PAGE DESIGN.
The Senior Art Studio course will allow students to develop a body of work that speaks to their specific personal voice and unique vision as an artist. Students will begin by narrowing down ideas for the concentration of things that truly interest them as inquiring creative artists. Through research, brainstorming and sketching students will decide upon a theme for their concentration. The body of work that grows around that theme will investigate a strong visual idea. The Senior Exhibition will be the culmination of the course.
Course Objectives: Students will be able to
- Apply elements and principles of design to create work that reflects his/her style
- Use art vocabulary to discuss, critique and write about art
- Demonstrate applicable skills to create different works of art in a variety of mediums
- Identify various career, and college opportunities in art
- Demonstrate knowledge of different skills such as photography, lighting, graphic design, color, composition, drawing and painting to create a portfolio in a well-executed manner
- Study the history of art and its influence on today’s creations
- Creation of self promotional blogs, and printed materials
Young Arts: Due in October Link - (This assignment is not required but recommended / After School or in other classes)
This is project is required by all Seniors

Senior Art Project: Senior Exhibition
Class Critique - Group Critiques are Every 6 Weeks, as well as Scheduled Teacher Critiques.
Course Rules:
Drawing & Painting, & 3-D: Proper clean up of brushes and paint will create an opportunity for you to use materials that are high quality, and reliable. Please be aware that others will be using the same materials and need to have equal access. You may not take home or store the tools unless you get permission first. This course is self directed and allows you to take responsibility for you supplies, work pace, and final product. It is your responsibility to ask for assistance, and advocate on your own behalf. If you are having problems keeping up with the work it is your responsibility to come and see me for assistance. Please do not keep your work at home, as you will be asked to produce your work without notice for a one on one consult with teacher or fellow students. Use of the computers for anything other than course work is not permitted, and you will be asked to move if you are using them for none class related activities. No cell phone usage during class unless approved, and earphone usage is not permitted during class discussion. A reflection is required to receive a full grade. No visitors or leaving class without permission. Removing any equipment or private property that does not belong to you is against the law and all violations will be reported to the SD police department. SD police will not investigate cell phone or IPod theft, so if you bring it to school you are at risk.

Camera strap must be around your neck when you are in possession of 35mm camera. All food and drink are considered a hazard and should not be consumed while operating any equipment including computers. A = 90-100% Advanced
B = 80-89.9% Proficient
C = 70-79.9% Basic
D = 60-69.9% Below Basic
F = 59.9 or Less Far Below Basic
Citizenship: Please see the student handbook.
Supplies: Flash Drive is recommended. A external drive is provided, however if a student wishes to maintain control over their images I suggest they save all of their work on a external drive. If students are series about taking pictures outside of school they will need their own digital camera.

Scholastic Arts Competition - Guidelines
Research Colleges - Portfolio should be based on the college portfolio requirements. If you are not planning to attend college for art please create a standard portfolio. (This portfolio requires teacher approval).
Assignment 1 - How to think critically and develop an interesting concept.
Museum of Contemporary Work - We will be doing a project with the museum down town and will create work, and
will exhibit work at the Museum in the upstairs offices.
Scholastic Arts Submission - Due December 17th.
The San Diego Museum of Art - Young Art Exhibition
Assignment - Visualizing Music - Explore the theme of music. You can honor musicians or a particular piece of music, or a combination of art and music and the parallels between them. Submissions are due the week of January 19th. This work will be a part of the Panama-California Exposition Centennial which is April 11-May 26, 2015.
