PHOTOGRAPHY 3,4 (3694) Grades 10-12
THIS COURSE IS RECOMMENDED FOR ALL STUDENTS PURSUING CAREERS IN DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, DRAWING , PAINTING, DESIGN, MIXED MEDIA, AND WEB PAGE DESIGN.
Photography 3,4 allows advanced application of previously acquired skills and gives students more detailed knowledge of the many areas of photography. Photographic processes used for industrial purposes are stressed. This course uses advances in photographic technology to produce and to display digital photos. Emphasis is placed on the development of entry-level skills for professional photography. This course reinforces core academic content area and California Career Technical Education model curriculum standards in relevant, applied setting, appropriate to the subject and grade level. This course is part of the Media and Design Arts pathway.
Course Objectives: Students will be able to:
Identify and use the elements and principles of design to create original works of art.
Use art vocabulary correctly in critiques, written reflections, artist statements, and in class discussions.
Study and understand the history of photographic arts and influences on contemporary art.
Demonstrate knowledge of skills such as composition, concept development, and intermediate Photoshop skills.
Demonstrate knowledge of intermediate lighting techniques.
Understanding of relationship between ISO, shutter speed, and aperture.
Development of individual style, and portfolio.
Supplies: The darkroom is available for this course however supplies are limited so if you wish to donate or purchase supplies for your child please go to the following link.

We use 35mm 100 ASA or 400 ASA black and white film and 8x10 RC Multigrade B&W printing paper
Many advanced students in the SCPA photo department do own their own DSLR camera, however a camera
is not required for this course. We do not have enough camera equipment to send home with students so all
camera equipment is to be used on campus.
Course Rules: Camera strap must be around your neck when you are in possession of 35mm camera. All food and drink are considered a hazard and should not be consumed while operating any equipment including computers. Work saved on the computer may be placed in trash at the end of the day to ensure that ram is available. Use of the computers for anything other than course work is not permitted, and you will be asked to move if you are using it for none class related activities. No cell phone usage during class unless approved, and earphone usage is not permitted during class discussion. A reflection is required to receive a full grade. No visitors or leaving class without permission, and you must check in and out with the instructor prior to leaving the room. Removing any equipment or private property that does not belong to you is against the law and all violations will be reported to the SD police department. SD police will not investigate cell phone or IPod theft, so if you bring it to school you are at risk.

Letter Grade
A = 90-100% Advanced
B = 80-89.9% Proficient
C = 70-79.9% Basic
D = 60-69.9% Below Basic
F = 59.9 or Less Far Below Basic
